![]() It's my "universal" playlist for any DJ program, heh. My music library system is designed to let me on anyone's laptop and DJ program without needing a playlist. I try not to invest so much time in DJ software libraries, such as comments and labeling cue points, because you never know when you're planning on jumping ship from a software for another program that may be better for you. VDJ is compelling, and keeps up with decent features, but price-wise ($299 for pro!?), and for a performer, I'd prefer Traktor. VDJ's POI feature is pretty similar to Traktor cue point system, except that the track pops up in a separate window. I'm more interested in difference of features. I'm not too hung up on UI's everyone's gonna have a difference preference. Video DJing (something they've always had)SandboxVST plug in effects (something I really wish Traktor had)Remote app control from a tabletMusic stream integration (for now)Īside from those aforementioned differences, Traktor can practically everything that VDJ does, but also:SequencerLive remixing (as in, on the go)Loop recorderSTEMs The only few things that stood out to me are: I know this articles about SDJ and VDJ, but for me, it begged the question: was there anything I liked more in VDJ compared to Traktor? Now, I haven't used VDJ since 2009, but I decided to briefly compare their modern features to Traktor. I guess what I’m saying is that VDJ has been a low-key pioneer for some aspects of DJ’ing (multi deck playing and streaming) It’s been a few years since I DJ’d but I guess Beatport has some sort of streaming capabilities for songs while DJ’ing. You connected to their server and could choose songs to play through streaming the song. When people heard 3 or 4 different songs at once or cut in, they went nuts.Įdit: completely unrelated but I just remembered that VDJ had some sort of streaming capability of songs. Back then it was just thought of by the crowds that you could only play 2 songs at once. I blew plenty of minds back in the day when cutting in 3 or 4 tracks. This was years before Traktor and Serato (I’m not sure if they do support it, but I’m sure they do) supported being able to play with 4 decks. Side note: when I started using VDJ, they had 4 deck playability. People just want to hear music to dance to. At the end of the day though, if you’re just a regular DJ gigging at bars, nobody will give a fuck about you using VDJ. If you want to take your game further then Serato/Traktor is your next step. If you’re just doing basic mixing then VDJ, Serato and Traktor are all essentially the same. A lot of people shit on it because it’s free and you’re limited to some of the things you can do with compared to something like Serato/Traktor (I’ve noticed it was mainly effects). It’s a great program to get into DJ’ing with. Never used Serato, but I started DJ’ing with VirtualDJ back in 2008 before switching over to Traktor. ![]()
